Walcha - An active community with a strong supportive ethic.

Walcha is situated 411km from Sydney, 270km from Newcastle along Thunderbolt's Way via Gloucester and 183km from Port Macquarie on the Oxley Highway. Walcha is about 64kms from Armidale, and 90 km to Tamworth on the junction of the Oxley Highway and Thunderbolts Way. The Walcha shire is situated on the New England Tablelands and has some of the most breathtaking  scenery in the country. There are the outstanding formations of  the Apsley Falls and the Wild River gorges of the Macleay valley. The area has some of the most productive agricultural land which produces fine wool, fat lambs and cattle.

We obtained a lease from the Amaroo Land Council on the 1st November 2010 and commenced operation. Our lease was due to expire on the 30th November 2021 so we began to search for new premises or a suitable location.

We developed a partnership with Scouts Australia New England Branch for a long term lease on their unused scout hall on the 1st August 2020 and obtained funding from the NSW Government to demolish the old scout hall and build a new shed making provision for the Scouts to have access if they wished to reform the local scouting troop. The new shed was completed by the end of 2022.
